The Parent’s First Experience with the Baby is both Challenging and Exciting. Your baby cries all the time, grabs their ears and you have no idea what it means. Luckily some experts have decoded these Baby Languages. There are some clues you need to figure out what your little baby is trying to say. Here are the ways your baby cries. During the first four months of life, crying is the main way babies express their needs. Here are seven types of Baby cry to listen for and what they mean?

  • A Calling Cry: Ever heard your baby cry for 5–6 seconds and then pause for the next 20 seconds, that’s a Calling Cry. This means that your baby has been alone for a while and now desperately needs your attention. If you don’t respond right away, you can hear this fascinating cycle of cry a couple more times. Just pick your baby up and give them all the love they need.
  • A Hunger Cry: This type of cry is very similar to the calling cry with one little catch. If you don’t get in there immediately, then the cry becomes hysterical quickly. Your baby may also start rotating their head and making smacking sounds with their mouth. This is a clear sign that it’s time to Feed.
  • A Pain Cry: If you hear a Pain Cry once, you will never confuse it with any of the others. This cry is flat and constant. But small hysterical outburst means the pain is increasing and you should call the doctor as soon as possible. This type of crying is also very loud unless your baby is strong enough to make loud noises.
  • A Physiological Cry: Babies deal with all bodily functions like us from having gas to peeing and pooping. This can cause them more discomfort than you think. Thankfully, babies usually let you know right away by whining and squeaking as they cry and it refers to Physiological Cry.
  • A Sleep Cry: Sleep is another problem for babies, sometimes they just can’t. We can relate, you know sometimes we say, “I slept like a baby”, meaning calm and peaceful all night long. Well, it really means that I slept and then woke up after every 2 hours and cried. In this case, the crying sounds like an offended and smooth whining followed by lots of yawning. Sleepy Babies also tend to rub their eyes and ears. So you can look out for these signs too.
  • A Discomfort cry: Discomfort Cry sounds very irritating, often comes together with fidgeting. Your baby can also flail their arms and legs and arch their back. This usually means time to check their Diapers or change their clothes. They are maybe too hard or too cold.
  • A Bored Cry: Bored Cry is extremely common. Your baby cries and you try doing everything you can to figure out what is wrong. Easy, your baby may be just frustrated or bored. Take them for a walk outside or around the house. A simple environmental change can stop the crying quickly.
